Currently Cuba - May 27 - July 3, 2017
Opening Reception: Saturday, May 27 from 6-8pm
Gallery Talk: Sunday, June 11 from 1-3pm
The Currently Cuba Exhibit opens Memorial Day weekend and brings images from the journeys of three regional award-winning photographers, Ennid Berger, Lois Youmans, and Michael Chinnici, who have documented their recent visits to the country. Meet the artists at the opening reception on Saturday, May 27 from 6-8pm and enjoy Lenz wine and hors d’oeuvres. The reception is free and open to the public and the exhibit runs through July 3, 2017.
Ennid Berger found Havana surprisingly beautiful with a rich visual arts history, yet at the same time, somewhat gritty. She preferred to communicate the declining beauty of Havana in black and white, sometimes choosing selective color to emphasize the exotic appeal and vitality of the city. Lois Youmans found Cuba’s cultural history revealed in layers of colors and textures, and was mesmerized by the old-world charm, deteriorating architecture, and the resilience shown in the vintage cars and their owners. Michael Chinnici’s ongoing visual project of thought provoking and emotional images from numerous trips to Cuba depicts the changes the country is facing as it emerges from more than 50 years of isolation and decay.
“Currently Cuba” Gallery Talk: Join the artists on Sunday, June 11 from 1:00-3:00 PM for a free luncheon Gallery Talk to hear the discussion about their works in the exhibit. Reservations are required for the Talk. Sponsored by Abatelli Realty of Cutchogue.
